In the beginning
From a one-station police force with 29 members to a 15, 000 people strong vital organisation, Dubai Police has grown into one of the most successful units in the region. Dubai Police launched its Electronic Services Department (ESD) in 2001 as part of the authority's efforts to better serve the residents of Dubai. In the programme initiated by Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, ESD was developed to centralise and manage the myriad independent IT Systems operating in each of the police departments.Through the online services, Dubai Police are aiming to be able to deliver real time services to residents in the city. Through the website, residents will be able to gain information for vehicle licensing, to view and pay for traffic violations as well as apply for driving tests online.
Dubai Police required a stable IT infrastucture that could support all of its departments including the Traffic Department and CID. Dubai Police tested the latest HP IT products and solutions and signed an agreement in 2003 with HP, where HP provides all its departments with high end business desktops, enterprise soltuions and servers.
