The programme, part of DP World-UAE's education initiative, will initially be available to students studying accounting and mechatronics majors. It could be expanded to cover more subjects in the future.

An agreement was signed by Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior VP & MD at DP World-UAE, and Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research, at the college's open day recently.

According to the agreement, the college will provide DP World-UAE with the names of interested students, as well as those it recommends. Nominees for the sponsorship programme will be assessed and short-listed by DP World based on a predetermined selection criteria.

"We are happy to initiate this cooperation with Dubai Men's College. We are looking forward to enhancing this partnership in the years ahead," said Al Muallem.

"We aim to work closely with the college in line with our larger commitment to the education of our youth. Aware of our responsibility towards the local community, we hope to widen the scope of our cooperation with other academic institutions," he added.

DP World-UAE's education initiative also includes the Marine engineering, Marine Pilotage and Tug Masters sponsorship programme. Under this scheme, potential high school graduates are sent to the UK or Egypt to continue in the marine pilot and tug master area of study.
