HE Abdul Rahman al Owais addresses Youth Challenges at the Young Leaders Forum

HE Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, spoke to Young Leaders on the challenges that face the UAE youth and the role of the Ministry in resolving those challenges.

HE Al Owais who was hosted by Young Leaders Forum, an initiative of Mohammad Bin Rashid Leadership Development Programme in collaboration with the Dubai School of Government, explained the UAE strategy to support youth, and stressed the need to focus on building awareness, preserving national identity, and developing leadership skills and capabilities.

Adel Al Shared, Director of Mohammad Bin Rashid Leadership Development Programme, said: "Youth consist the majority of the population in the UAE, not to mention that the Arab World enjoys the largest young population in the world."

He pointed: "Statistics show that the Arab World will require creating 100 million new job placements in the next 20 years. Consequently, university graduates will face the greatest challenges during the coming years."

Tarik Yousuf, Dean of the Dubai School of Government, stressed the need to allow the involvement of youth in all development schemes, referring to the joint research initiative that was launched recently by Brookings Institute of Wolfensohn Center for Development aimed at understanding and addressing the socio-economic challenges facing millions of young people in the Middle East region.

He added: "Youth in the Arab World are often excluded from the vital participation in the social and economic developments in their countries.

"Programmes such as the Mohammad Bin Rashid Leadership Development Programme put their offers into training youth and developing their leadership capabilities and skills, as set by the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice- President, Prime-Minister and Ruler of Dubai."

The Young Leaders Forum is part of Young Leaders Track, a periodic event held in partnership between the Dubai School of Government and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Programme For Leadership Development and sponsored by Axiom.

The event aims at facilitating exchange of ideas and promoting dialogue on leadership concepts in the Arab world.

The Mohammed Bin Rashed Leadership Programme

The Mohammed bin Rashid Programme Leadership Programme was established as a unique "fast track" programme that seeks to identify potential future leaders from Dubai's existing talent pool and provide an integrated programme of learning activities to accelerate their personal development.

The programme functions in different areas and categories such as Government Leaders, Young Leaders and Business Leaders, thus offering a choice of training courses, roundtable seminars and workshops among others.
