Qatar IT in the spotlight
- Qatar: Sunday, April 22 - 2007 at 12:42
- PRESS RELEASE
Qatar's IT community is growing rapidly, judging by the large turn-out at Qatar Science & Technology Park's latest TECHtalk and the debate on e-commerce triggered by its new 'Qatar Innovator' briefing.
The keynote speaker Matthew Silvester, Senior Account Executive of leading technology analyst Gartner profiled the latest trends in the global IT market. Basing his talk on the annual Gartner/Forbes Executive Survey of global Chief Executive Officers and Chief Information Officers, Silvester highlighted the importance of engaging IT departments early on when companies formulate their business development strategies.
Addressing the largest audience so far at a QSTP TECHtalk, Silvester said "IT is often the most heavily measured discipline in most companies. It is seen as critical to business success and individual projects. Yet IT is rarely involved in strategy building, rather it is bought in at a later stage as a support services - this will slowly change."
After the presentation Dr. Eulian Roberts, Chief Executive of QSTP, remarked "Each one of the IT experts to address the TECHtalks has emphasised the importance of fostering innovation. This is the very essence of QSTP's mission, and we are now putting in place the tools to enable entrepreneurs to bring their business plans to fruition."
The Qatar community was presented with further insights into technology business today with the launch of "Qatar Innovator", a quarterly electronic briefing produced by QSTP. The bulletin examines technology trends in Qatar, projects by local companies and universities, and developments at the science park. Its inaugural edition contains an in-depth look at e-commerce.
Launching the newsletter Ben Figgis, QSTP Marketing Manager, said, "As QSTP nears its opening later this year the level of technology activity in Qatar is rising sharply. Qatar Innovator will help people stay abreast of what's going on. It's an essential read for anyone who wants their business in Qatar to stay ahead of the game."
