The MECOM exhibition kicked off on Sunday April 22nd with 100 plus international exhibitors, and was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC).
The Summit is hosting a series of seminars deliberated the latest developments, issues, products and opportunities in the communications sector such as wireless, satellite, 3G, Internet and broadband, VOIP and next-generation networks.
Mohammad Al Ghanim, Director General of UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory delivered the inauguration address, and was followed by keynote speeches from Essa Al Haddad, Chief Marketing Officer of Etisalat and Osman Sultan, CEO of new telecommunications company du.
The first day's proceedings covered Etislat's rebranding and value-adding strategies, the impact of du's entry into the UAE telecommunications market, British Telecom's introduction of its 21st Century Network, developing mobility services, satellite telecommunications, wireless broadband solutions for MENA markets and other focused discussions.
The Summit's opening day attracted 170 plus delegates including regional leaders, telecommunication enterprise managers and international experts who attended to network and exchange expertise on pressing issues facing regional telecommunication industries.

The MECOM Telecommunications and ICT Summit opened yesterday as part of the MECOM 2007 dedicated telecommunications exhibition being held at the new Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
