Wireless solutions and mobile networks take center stage at MECOM 2007

MECOM 2007, dedicated international telecommunications exhibition and conference being held at the state of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), has seen key exhibitors introducing wireless technology solutions to an expanding and liberalizing Middle East Market as part of a general trend towards higher levels of mobile service delivery.

Masiya, technology solutions integrator, has attracted attention with their iBURST solutions and value adding wireless services providing superior reach with smooth coverage transfer between cells. Working with preferred partner VAS, Masiya has implemented projects for du at Dubai Airport, and at the Emirates Palace Hotel over a 1 million square metre project site. The integrator offers wireless solutions that, unlike the static Wi-Max technology, offer uninterrupted coverage for mobile implementations such as in cars and trains.

ZTE, leading Chinese telecomm infrastructure provider is showcasing convergence technology with PSTN and mobile networks, as well as 2G/3G Wi-Max for various applications. ZTE's showcase reflects a pattern of increasing wireless offerings by international organizations as the regional telecomm industry inculcates new technology and focuses on mobile service delivery.

HP is also exhibiting enhanced wireless solutions, such as Value Adding Services over 3G platforms. The company is also highlighting voice and video multimedia converged solutions that negate the need for costly infrastructural overhaul by running over pre-installed infrastructure in the Middle East.

MECOM was visited today (April 25th 2007) by Marwan Hamadeh, Lebanon's Minister of Telecommunications. Hamadeh held a meeting with the UAE's TRA, which has been acting as a consultant for Lebanon's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

"I thank His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi & Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces for supporting this exhibition that showcases technologies that will be part of the region's future. MECOM has presented me with a number of choices that we could benefit from as we introduce DSL and other telecomm technologies to Lebanon," said Hamdeh.
