Adopting healthy lifestyle key to long life, says Medcare Hospital

Doctors and nurses from Medcare Hospital provided free blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI) check ups for more than 100 children in the age group of eight - 12 years. The BMI check up was supported by Abbott, a global healthcare company with the help of a health educator.

Throughout the evening, specialists at Medcare Hospital spoke on the rising incidence of obesity, dental care issues and juvenile diabetes among UAE children.

Ala Atari, Chief Operating Officer, and Medcare Hospital said "Instead of worrying about obesity and diabetes at a later stage, it is better to take preventive measures and incorporate a regular healthy diet and exercise plan."

He added, "It is easier to influence children's eating habits when they are young. If they are taught to differentiate the right foods from wrong, they will automatically opt for better choices at a later stage."

Event co-ordinator for Al Ittihad school, Aziza Qaziha said, "We are grateful to the hospital and its staff for spending time with our students and educating them about a healthy diet, regular sleep and exercise as key factors to great living."
