Syria, Russia gas deal

Syria and Russia have signed a $218m agreement to establish three natural gas plants at Homs, reported the AP citing the official SANA. The plants should be complete in 20 months and will have a daily capacity of 3m cubic metres. Syria's oil production has declined from 600,000 bpd in 2000 to 360,000 bpd last year and the country is trying to compensate for the shortfall by utilising its gas reserves.
