In less than one year of the launch of 'Selects', in the region, the programme's merchant offer base has trebled with a current total of over 300 leading names in the travel & leisure, dining and retail sectors.

'Selects' is a programme that provides American Express Cardmembers access to exclusive offers for shopping, dining, travel and leisure in over 50 countries, through an easily navigable website.

Peter Fawn, Head of Establishment Services Group for American Express in the Middle East and North Africa explained that the programme is attracting tremendous interest from merchants in the region who wish to attract premium American Express Cardmembers from around the world. "Premium clientele and tangible value are integral to our merchant offerings. The 'Selects' programme further enhances the long term benefits for our merchants by enabling them to present their products and services to both local and international American Express Cardmembers," added Fawn.

He explained that on average, American Express Cardmembers spend three to four times more than they do on other cards, naturally an important and profitable customer base for merchants. Additionally, over 70 per cent of Fortune 500 companies use American Express Cards for all their travel and entertainment expenses, which is why an increasing number of merchants across the region are seeing the benefits of 'Selects'.

Among the many recent merchant signings to 'Selects' is OctopusTravel, an online one-stop shop for travel planning. Through OctopusTravel alone, American Express Cardmembers have access to special rates at over 21,000 hotels the world.

Fawn added that American Express Middle East is also proud to be "The Official Payment Card" of the Arabian Travel Market 2007 in Dubai for the second consecutive year. American Express will host an exclusive VIP lounge throughout the four days of the Arabian Travel Market 2007; showcasing its premium range of Cards and services and providing the perfect networking platform for Cardmembers and merchant partners.

"The Arabian Travel Market was the launch pad for 'Selects' last year and we are happy to be part of this leading travel trade conference once again. We are confident that the success of 'Selects' will generate even greater interest from the travel and hospitality industry."
