- United Arab Emirates: Monday, April 30 - 2007 at 10:10
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai International Academy, the Emirates Hills located school celebrated its first International Day on 26 April with performances by over 100 students showcasing a kaleidoscope of cultures from around the world.
While it was cultural songs and dances that took the spotlight on International Day, an ambience of fun and friendship was visible across the school grounds. Parents set up and managed country displays that represented the heritage of their country. The guests at the event were able to get a glimpse of traditional handicrafts of each participating country and even got to sample their cuisine.
Speaking at the occasion, Poonam Bhojani, Executive Director of Dubai International Academy, said: "DIA in its second year is happy to celebrate its diversity with its student community of 1100 pupils from almost 70 countries and over 140 staff from over 20 countries. It is indeed a momentous day for all of us, as we celebrate our diversity and our similarity at the same time. International Day has become a reality because of the close collaboration between pupils, DIA staff and the parent community, especially the unstinting efforts of the school's Parents Association".
International Day got underway with the Parade of Nations under the direction of Alison Besselaar, Deputy Principal, Elementary School that saw flag-waving children from different nationalities taking the stage in their traditional costumes.
