Until now, users of wireless devices have had to sacrifice speed for flexibility, but the new Toshiba WRC-1000 allows high-speed downloads at home, connectivity at small office or education locations, and teleworking or access to corporate networks.

This mobile solution enables secure connections to high-speed broadband (DSL/Cable/ISDN) via a Wide Area Network (WAN).

"The Toshiba Wireless Routing Centre enables users to take full advantage of their wireless devices and provides increased mobility at any time," says Ahmed Khalil, regional manager of Toshiba Middle East Operations, Computer Systems Division.

"The Toshiba WRC-1000 is the most convenient way to implement wireless Internet and Network access via high-speed DSL or cable services, including a wireless LAN access point, router, firewall and four-port switch.

"Fast and easy to set-up, customers only need a standard web browser for simple, low-cost installation and configuration. Integrated features like VPN Passthrough and Network Address Translation (NAT) provide a fully-secured networking environment."

Toshiba currently offers a range of products with integrated Wi-Fi connectivity features, including notebooks, servers and PDAs. For notebook users without integrated Wi-Fi networking, Toshiba offers a Wireless LAN PC card option.

Key product features of the WRC-1000 are:

• Wireless LAN enabled DSL/Cable router - ideal to configure a secure network and to share broadband Internet connections

• Fully compliant with IEEE 802.11b standard providing transmission speed of up to 11 Mbps via dynamic-scaling and auto-rating

• Wi-Fi certified, fully compatible to most Wi-Fi enabled products

• Wireless LAN security through WEP 128 bit key and support of IEEE 802.1X Protocol

• WLAN interface to support typically up to 30 users over a distance of up to 100m

• 4-port Switch to easily connect other LAN enabled devices

• Integrated DHCP and PPPoE clients

• 4-port Switch and WAN port, incl. RJ-45 with auto-sensing and crossover support

• Easy detection and setup of new WRC-1000 unit with WRC Finder utility

• Plug-and-Play (UPnP) support for quick setup and ease-of-use in Microsoft Windows XP environments

• Very small physical form factor in nice industrial design

• Compact unit can be desk, wall or ceiling mounted
