Oman Air launches direct flights to Abu Dhabi and Chittagong

Alongside its participation at ATM 2007, the leading travel and tourism exhibition within the Middle East and Pan Arabia Oman Air the designated carrier of the Sultanate of Oman is celebrating the launch of its new services from Muscat to Abu Dhabi and Chittagong.

The Muscat-based Oman air says it will start a daily service to Abu Dhabi, and five weekly services to Chittagong.

An Oman Air spokesman said "The Company is delighted to have the opportunity to expand its services. The Muscat-based airline Oman Air will open new gateways. We have been looking to expand our operations for some time, and we are pleased to be able to launch our new destinations. Our aim is to make Oman, the Middle East's premium hub for tourism, and we believe this new direct air links will stimulate more trade and tourism exchange between these two destinations. We are confident our service would prove popular with both business and leisure time travellers."

"Lucknow will be Oman Air's seventh destination to the Indian subcontinent to be launch on 3 May 2007, the others being Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. Our newest destination Jaipur to commence on 3 June 2007 will be the eighth destination to India." he added.

The spokesman further stated that Oman Air is continuing its aggressive fleet and market expansion program. The new routes of Oman Air are part of its rapid network expansion, and the move will boost Oman's trade and tourism with these cites, and will provide international travellers and cargo-shippers with new direct links. These flights will create new non-stop connections that are expected to promote tourism and business traffic between our brotherly and friendly countries. The announcement of these new destinations is a significant milestone for Oman Air.

Corporate Communications and Media Department in Oman Air gave details on the carrier's new destinations stating that Chittagong is the major seaport and second largest city of Bangladesh with a population of 3.9 million that is continuing to grow, adding that Lucknow is the capital city of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, and It had a population of 2,541,101. Lucknow has always been a multicultural city. The Department said that Jaipur, also popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital of Rajasthan state, India. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II , Jaipur was the first planned city in India and in 2003, after only 276 years, the population reached approximately 2.7 million. Jaipur is considered by many urbanists to be one of the best planned cities.

"The airliner is gearing up to demonstrate its future ambitions plans to fly to London, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. Oman Air, the flagship company of the Sultanate of Oman's Civil Aviation sector operates scheduled domestic and international passenger services, as well as local air taxi and charter work. Oman Air's main base is Seeb International Airport, Muscat. The airline is also a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization, and Oman government holds 82% stake in Oman Air. Presently, Oman Air covers twenty international and two domestic destinations with a fleet of B737-800, B737-700 and ATR42-500s. Oman Air is the first airline in the Gulf to introduce the brand new Boeing NG 737 aircraft series. It is also the first ever airline to offer intra-Gulf commuter services."
