The DSS Office has a strong presence in the four-day exhibition that concludes on Friday, May 4.

Saeed Mohammed Al Nabouda, DSS CEO made the announcement in front of a large gathering of local, regional and international media representatives, visitors and DSS officials. In the wake of the overwhelming response to these packages last year, the DSS Office has once again developed these packages to cater to a wider audience of DSS visitors and residents.

Said Al Nabouda, "After the stupendous success of the maiden spa promotion launched last year, we are here once again to reveal the best of the spa packages available during DSS 2007," he said adding, "This year 21 of the best spas and hotels of Dubai's are offering a wide spectrum of packages varying from volcanic ash and stones, Moroccan bath, oxygen treatments, herbal treatments and yoga in addition to special treatments for reduction and special programmes for back pains and high blood pressure among others," he said.

While highlighting the DSS Office's keenness in this project Al Nabouda said, "Spa tourism is the in-thing today as spas have now become one of the major tourist attractions in the world. Recent studies show that a large number of tourists plan their vacations based on the availability and quality of spas in their vacation destination."

Said Al Nabouda, "We are proud and privileged to live in a city that has managed in the past few years to advance dramatically in the realm of the spa industry and become one of the main tourist destinations in terms of spas and rejuvenation therapies as the emirate today hosts some of the best spas in the world that provide world-class services in the most serene atmosphere.

"The fact that Dubai has three out of four of resorts in the Middle East that have been voted as world class is a clear indication of the popularity of the spa culture here. The city also boasts one of the highest concentrations of spas per capita in the world," said Al Nabouda.

Launched in 1998, Dubai Summer Surprises was conceived as the foremost family entertainment event during the summer season for the whole of GCC. Targeted at visitors from outside the UAE and within the country, DSS has been a major entertainment and shopping attraction since its inception and witnessed 1,875,000 visitors in the year 2006 compared to 600,000 in 1998. The event has succeeded in positioning Dubai as the leading summer destination in the region.

Organised by government departments with the cooperation of the public sector, the ten-week event is a celebration of different surprises that offer visitors and shoppers the perfect family entertainment opportunity and the ideal combination of shopping and adventure. Over the years DSS has hosted numerous surprises such as Food, Water, Global, Ice, Flower, Sports, Heritage, Arts, Techno, Cartoons, Colour, Sweets, Knowledge, and Back-2-School. The summer event lays special emphasis on children, who are provided all the opportunities to hone their skills while enjoying a fun-packed ten weeks of activities. DSS also has its own mascot, Modhesh, the ever smiling brand ambassador who embodies everything that the event stands for - fun, excitement, brightness and unlimited joy for children.

Dubai Summer Surprises as a venture has contributed significantly to the economy of Dubai and continues to do so by enhancing different economic sectors during a lean period of economic activity in summer. An increase in visitor expenditure from AED 850 million in 1998 to AED 2.57 billion in 2006 is a clear indication of the event's ability to drive economic growth during summer. Into its tenth year, Dubai Summer Surprises has come a long way by building on the successes of the previous editions and aims to create a benchmark for future years to provide the three most important characteristics of the event - shopping, winning, and entertainment.
