Saif Al Hajeri, Chairman of Tadreeb, stated that the conference will be held in line with the directives of the country's leadership to invest heavily in human resource development. He further stressed the mission of Tadreeb to enhance training and educational programs within the UAE with the intention of creating an ideal environment for exchange of expertise.

Dr. Adel Al Shamry, Chairman of the National Committee for Professional Medical Skill Improvement of the UAE and the medical consultant for Tadreeb, said, "This conference is the first of its kind in the GCC region. Experts and specialists in the field of diabetes treatment will gather here in Abu Dhabi to share their knowledge, experiences, and views on the latest trends in diabetes treatment and prevention."

Dr. Maha Barakat, Consultant Endocrinologist and Medical & Research Director at the Imperial College of London Diabetes Clinic in Abu Dhabi said, "ICLDC's participation in the conference stems from its firm belief in the significance of scientific conferences in imparting skills to physicians and nursing staff which would, in turn, have a positive impact on the performance levels and service standards provided to diabetics within the UAE."

She continued: "Government and non-government organizations are currently engaged in serious efforts to control the widespread diabetes in our country, particularly after statistics revealed that over 25% of the population is suffering from it. The ICLDC and The Emirates Foundation joined hands to launch a national campaign for prevention of diabetes under the kind auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation."

Dr. Khalid Al Jabiri, Director of Al-Mafraq Hospital and member of the Medical Consultative Council of Tadreeb, stressed the importance of participation by physicians and nursing staff working in diabetes treatment centers, family clinics, medical and cardiology departments, and ICU and trauma centers.

Dr. Al Jabiri said, "The conference and workshop activities will deliver both theoretical and practical information, vital to patient care." Participants will receive seven credit hours of continuing education, and scientific certificates will be awarded to participants by the Cleveland Clinic."

He further stated that according to the provisions of the recent Health Authority Act, all physicians and medical staff are obliged to attend training and continuing education programs as it is now a condition of appointment, and required for continuation of practice, contract renewal, and promotions.
