Both earned their MBA degrees with distinctions - the only ones to do so from amongst the 336 students around the world graduating from the MBA programme this year. The two students - from India and Uzbecistan - are part of a group of 29 students graduating this year via Strathclyde's International Centre in Dubai, where the programme is administered by the British Council.

Christine Joyce, Distance Learning Manager at the British Council, said: "The British Council is delighted with the performance of all the Strathclyde MBA programme students in Dubai. The fact that two of our students - and both of them women - earned distinctions, demonstrates the quality of candidates that we are attracting and the potential of women students, and we are attracting more women every year. Strathclyde University will also be honouring all the Dubai centre MBA students at a graduation ceremony in Dubai, in December."

The 2002 academic year Strathclyde MBA intake - called 'Mackay' - every intake is named after a Scottish clan (tribe) - finished recently. Of the 66 applications received at the British Council, 50 candidates were accepted onto the programme, which started in October.

The British Council started the Strathclyde distance learning MBA programme in Dubai, in 1995. While Dubai is the centre for the programme, it attracts students from as far away as Kuwait, Oman and Qatar. This year, for the first time, the British Council also ran one programme module in Abu Dhabi, where there is a strong degree of interest.
