- PRESS RELEASE
Hundreds of people will once again dine out in aid of a cure for blindness as part of Dine foreSight, on Monday 4th June 2007.
Katy Newitt, Chairwoman of Foresight - the charity organisers - explained the appeal of Dine foreSight, now in its third year, "People know that they can have a lovely evening out with a delicious meal in their favourite restaurant and that all the proceeds will go directly to Foresight, giving hope to people who are blind."
Over 80 restaurants in Dubai gave the proceeds from at least one table in 2006 and is on course to be matched in 2007; in addition diners will be able to participate in Abu Dhabi and Fujeirah. "We believe that this is the biggest dining out event in the world and is certainly unique", said Catherine Wallwork, from Foresight, "This many restaurants giving tables on one single night is phenomenal and demonstrates the generosity of the catering trade and people all over the UAE. It gives a massive boost to our cause."
Joining in Dine foreSight is easy; Diners can book a table at any participating restaurant in the UAE by visiting the www.dineforesight.com, with the booking service generously provided by Time Out Ticketline. They pay online and receive a voucher to present to their chosen restaurant in exchange for a 3 course meal. People who would like to host their own dinner party at home in aid of the charity can also get involved - details are on the website.
"All you have to do is enjoy an evening out or a dinner party with friends - the money that you would have spent on your meal out will directly benefit finding a cure for blindness," explains Katy. "We will also provide a blindfold if diners would like to experience what it is like to eat without the use of their sight. It's a bit of fun but gets people to think about the issues that blind people face in their everyday lives."
Foresight - a branch of Tamkeen - was set up by Katy who is visually impaired when she discovered that recent progress in research means there is real hope of finding a cure for hereditary eye diseases. Foresight has funded 2 cutting edge research projects and is also active in the local community, including offering support to people with sight loss.
"I would like to invite everyone in the United Arab Emirates to dine on Monday 4th June 2007 to help put an end to hereditary blindness," said Katy. "Everyone who participates can enjoy a great night out and know that they are helping us to take a step closer to a cure - bringing hope into the lives of millions around the world."

About Foresight
Until recently untreatable, new progress in research means that cures for hereditary retinal diseases will be found. Our aim is to accelerate finding cures for retinal diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa. For some forms of retinal disease a cure will be found within 10 years and it is likely that children will be the first to benefit.
We also lobby to improve the lives of people who are visually impaired and blind in the U.A.E.
Foresight is a U.A.E-based non-profit making organisation and a branch of Tamkeen. We are an associate member of Retina International (which coordinates major retinal research internationally).
Tamkeen (the Arabic word for enabling) is a non-profit organisation, initiated by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for the training of visually impaired citizens of working age. This unique training centre provides professional training courses that aren't found anywhere else in the U.A.E. All courses including transport are free of charge.
Tamkeen's objective is to empower vision impaired U.A.E nationals and residents with practical, vocational skills to enable them to enter the modern workplace to become economic and socially independent citizens.
