The Leadership Development Programme consists of a series of modules made up of groups of executive sessions and workshops. It will offer a specialised forum to develop leadership skills, an electronic gateway, studies on excellence in the public sector, ways to deal with current issues in management of government institutions in Dubai, the UAE and the Gulf region.
The programme, designed to cover all training needs, will be offered by a group of academics and specialists renowned in government administration from institutions such as Harvard.
The programme seeks to ensure the process of developing team leadership in DEWA through improving personal skills and foundations of good governance in line with global best practices.
Nabil Ali Alyousuf, president of Dubai School of Government, said:
"The programme is in line with the objectives set out in the Dubai Strategic Plan for 2015, as issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. It will offer the latest in management and leadership techniques."
"Dubai is one of the highly developed cities in the world. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find a system which ensures regular electricity and water supply despite an unabated rise in demand. The emirate also needs to cope with urban development, and take into account contemporary issues such as environment conservation."
The training programme carries an added significance as an enabling tool for improvement in government services. The programme helps develop personal management skills and promotes best international practices in sustainable development.
As part of the programme, a one day 'State of the Region' forum will be organised to provide insights into the challenges facing Arab countries and the best means to overcome them. This will pave the way to adopting best practicing that can be disseminated in various government entities. The forum will also shed light on issues of governance in the region.
The Dubai School of Government will provide research papers to the trainees prior to the programme.
Other plans include a monthly newsletter focusing on the most prominent debates, and international media reports on corporate governance. The newsletter will also highlight the latest local, regional and international press reports on Dubai's growth and the related challenges.
