The Nokia Observation Camera for remote imaging shows wider MMS usage possibilities

Nokia Middle East today introduced the Nokia Observation Camera, a unique stand-alone imaging device that allows users to request and receive information remotely.
The Nokia Observation Camera operates within the GSM 900/1800 network coverage area in the GPRS environment and is expected to start shipping in the second quarter, 2003.
"The possible uses of the Nokia Observation Camera ae endless," said Eddie Maalouf, marketing manager at Nokia Middle East. "Whilst on holiday or away on business travel mobile phone owners will be able to check up on family members, pets or valuable possessions. This is a great new product which brings the advantages of Web cameras to the mobile environment."
The Nokia Observation Camera is a new kind of imaging device, combining a digital VGA camera, GSM transceiver and MMS technology in the same unit. The Nokia Observation Camera includes several functions, such as imaging on demand, imaging by motion detection, automatic timed images, calling the Observation Camera and listening to the surroundings, or getting temperature information.
"Nokia Observation Camera is the first stationary product in our wide range of products supporting MMS. It brings a new form of personalized communication for the consumer and business use. The Observation Camera is easy to install and use at one's home, summer cottage, mobile home, boat or even horse stable. You can have peace of mind that everything is fine, without actually being there,".said Janne Jormalainen, Vice President, Mobile Enhancements Business Unit, Nokia Mobile Phones. "The possibilities to create new mobile imaging services around the Observation Camera are numerous. You could, for example, check the weather at the golf course before leaving your home to play."
