UAE medical education at par with world standards

Medical education in the UAE is remarkably at par with world standards and has witnessed major improvements in the past few years according to Dr. Rashid Bin Shabib, Vice Chairman of Department of Health and Medical Services - Dubai (DOHMS) and Chairman of the Executive Board of Dubai Medical College.

"Medical education excellence is largely a result of improving the faculty and following the latest self learning methods adopted in world class medical schools" said Dr. Bin Shabib during DOHMS board meeting held recently and attended by DMC Dean Dr. Mohamed Galal El Din and Clinical Dean Dr. Muscat Baron.

The Executive Board of DMC reviewes the progress during the academic year in the areas of quality of education and examination, accreditation process and institutional effectiveness assessment, faculty development, student activities and academic achievements. Many changes in medical education particularly at the undergraduate level were introduced last year introducing an increasingly innovative curricula, methods and educational tools as a result of the cooperation of medical professionals with sociologists, psychologists, information specialists.

"The Innovative Medical Education program is an integrated framework of Problem-Based Learning that allows undergraduate medical students to be better exposed to specific human and community needs and benefit from more experiential and inductive methods of learning" DMC Dean Dr. Mohamed Galal El Din. Referring to DMC recent achievement as winners of Dubai Quality Appreciation Program Dr. Galal El Din pointed that academic excellence wouldn't have been possible without achieving excellence in organization, management, administration and overall commitment to best practices in the education process. " Dubai Medical College, is Celebrating 20 Years of excellent achievements, on top of it is competent graduates serving the growth of health care sector in the UAE" Said Dr. Galal El Din

DMC was the first college to award a degree in medicine & surgery in the UAE. The college was established in 1986 as a not-for-profit educational venture by the visionary entrepreneur Haj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah to offer girls in the United Arab Emirates and the region an opportunity to study medicine and avoid the troubles and risks of traveling abroad. Today, 50% of DMC students are UAE nationals and the college is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a record of over 500 comptent graduate physicians in the UAE and around the world and continues to be the leading internationally accredited medical college in the region.
