  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai-based Nico Middle East Ltd (NMEL) one of the region's leading offshore vessel owners and operators has announced it has approved contracts to build two new Anchor Handling Tug Support (AHTS) vessels for its offshore fleet with a total value of over USD23 million.

The contract was awarded to Malaysian shipbuilder, Nam Cheong and the two 5,150 bhp purpose-built AHTS vessels are currently under construction in Fuzhou, China. Nam Cheong was chosen for their high standards of quality, competitive pricing and their schedule of delivery. The two vessels are scheduled for delivery in December 2007 and July 2008 respectively.

The investment in the vessels is an integral part of NMEL's long term strategy of fleet replenishment and upgrading and forms the key to their overall plans to double their fleet size within the next five years.

"The vessels demonstrate our commitment to the market and will enhance our capabilities to provide new tonnage to our clients throughout the region and beyond," said Ron Clark, General Manager, Nico Middle East Ltd.

Nico Middle East is a wholly owned subsidiary of Topaz Energy and Marine Ltd. one of Dubai's leading Oil & Gas service company.
