Before the team's departure on May 17, Mr Bin Sulayem said: "Our participation in this prestigious event is aimed at enhancing Dubai World's presence in the Middle East and across the world. The World Economic Forum in Jordan is a particularly suitable opportunity to network with regional and global decision-makers and exchange views on key developments."

The theme of this year's World Economic Forum on the Middle East, is "Putting Diversity to Work", and is designed to spotlight efforts to accelerate economic diversification in a time of prosperity for the Middle East, while emphasizing the urgency of promoting peace and understanding in a region of great religious and ethnic diversity.

Mr Bin Sulayem said:

"We expect that the discussions will contribute towards understanding the dynamics of change and the challenges facing this part of the world at a time of unprecedented economic transformation in much of the region, especially in the Gulf. It will further our knowledge of new industries and the factors that are critical to our economic development."

Ten senior officials representing Dubai World companies Istithmar, Jafza, Tamweel, Tejari and World View Communications, as well as the Group corporate office, are accompanying Mr Bin Sulayem.

"The substantial increase in revenue through higher oil prices and the unprecedented growth in the real estate sector have triggered more Foreign Direct Investment in sectors as diverse as IT, media, tourism, transport, distribution, logistics and aviation. The insight we hope to gain at the World Economic Forum in Jordan will shed light on how Dubai World could shape its growth strategy in a rapidly changing region."

Conference organizers have said business leaders and policy-makers alike have to understand the needs of rapidly changing societies.

The programme will explore the many facets of this change and help leaders to prepare for a future in which the enormous potential of the Middle East can be reached.
