The achievement also reflects Dubai Chamber's commitment to implement the standards outlined in the program as a prerequisite for institutional excellence, and because the idea of establishing DTP goes in line with Dubai strategic plans.
H.E. Engineer Hamad Mubarak Buamim, Director General of Dubai Chamber, said that DTP's winning one of the remarkable awards of Dubai Government Excellence Program is a success to Dubai Chamber which, through DTP, was keen to provide its members and the business community in Dubai with the useful value-added services which help them improve their business activities up to international standards.
'Despite its relative short span, the DTP, launched by Dubai Chamber at the trade and business development department, succeeded through its qualified and highly-professional team to attract more than 100 members up to 2006. DTP helped its members to learn and benefit from thousands of investment opportunities around the world, and facilitate international trade related matters through its developing website, as well as the seminars and workshops it organizes throughout the year to attract more members and help them promote their products and businesses worldwide,' said Buamim.
He pointed out that the establishment of DTP at Dubai Chamber aimed at assisting the small and medium sized enterprises in Dubai to discover new business opportunities through electronic commerce in order to enhance their contacts with the local, regional and international business communities. He said that setting up the DTP goes in line with Dubai Chamber's strategy which aims at supporting and protecting the interests of its members and the business community in Dubai, and helping them to access the global markets easily and effectively.
Buamim said that 106 members have already registered at DTP till the end of 2006. The point provided them with an access to learn about more than 121,709 investment opportunities and pieces of information about international business projects, international bids and tenders, investment laws and procedures in foreign countries and information about classification standards throughout all the trade points in the world.
He added that DTP is a member of the World Trade Point Federation (WTPF) which includes 142 trade points in 92 countries. DTP is not just a website, but rather a developing center that works on facilitating international trade and providing its members with lots of local and international investment opportunities.
'DTP enables its members to access into WTPF database and the Electronic Trading Opportunities (ETO) system which allows them to post and receive business opportunities. The point also helps enhance the enterprises' competitiveness through obtaining authentic and trustful information about international trade, promote their products in global markets and encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to export,' Buamim said.
He noted that Dubai Trade Point is the first of its kind in the Gulf region and one of seven trade points in the Arab world. The point has largely contributed to Dubai's economic development through facilitating the practice of international trade and attracting foreign investments according to the many inquiries the point received about the procedures of setting up businesses in Dubai. It also helped linking its members with thousands of enterprises which are members of other trade points all over the world. The DTP is an important source of information for the business sector in Dubai through which businessmen could get statistics and useful information about the world economies and the financial commitments of potential trade partners.
