Ministry of Education of Jordan and Intel sign Memorandum Understanding during World Economic Forum, Dead Sea

As part of the World Economic Forum activities, Intel today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with the Jordanian Ministry of Education (MoE) to develop an advanced online training program as part of Intel® Teach offerings which teachers can take following their completion of the Intel® Teach Essentials and Thinking with Technology trainings.

Educating the educators is a fundamental element within Intel Corporation's approach to education worldwide.

Set to be launched in 2008, access to the program will be free of charge to all teachers in Jordan, including all education materials. The Ministry of Education and Intel will be working closely throughout the initial stages and in the future to ensure that all provisions and requirements are met, including preparing mentors and senior trainers on using the program; supporting the development of an evaluation plan; establishing a steering committee; as well as collaborating with local educational institutions.

"A solid education does not only benefit the students. Down the line, the same students will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on their community," said Dr. Khaled Toukan, Minister of Education, Jordan. "Through collaborations such as this, we can ensure that all measures are taken towards establishing a bright, unique and educated generation."

The advanced online program will build on three main educational pillars: teaching strategies, teaching models and learning styles. Based on an individual needs analysis, the program promotes online learning and collaboration while catering for students' diverse learning styles and building upon the teacher's existing competencies.

"The uniqueness of this program lies in the fact that it consolidates a range of the fundamental aspects of education into one platform and allows for the individuality and style of the teacher to shine through," said Dr. Martina Roth, Education Director, Intel Europe Middle East and Africa. "The teachers are able to go through the course without leaving their schools and engage with students in the learning process. We see this as a vital component of this program which allows for interaction between the students and teachers to continue on a daily basis without interruption." Martina also added that education is a key part of the Intel World Ahead Program launched on a global level last year.

The Ministry of Education in Jordan adopted The Intel® Teach Program in 2003, to date resulting in the training of more than 36,000 teachers within the Kingdom. In addition, the ministry also chose to introduce Intel® Teach Thinking with Technology Program, which has grown to become an integrated part of professional teacher development of MoE teachers.
