The new servers, based on the industry standard Solaris operating environment and the Fujitsu Sparc64 microprocessor (fifth generation), were unveiled recently in the Middle East as part of a global announcement.

The new Primepower series are state-of-the-art servers that offer all functionality needed for simplifying and optimizing existing IT infrastructures, by combining main-frame class availability, performance capabilities of vector-processing machines and the 'open world' benefits of UNIX servers.

'Fujitsu Siemens Computers brings to the market these versatile servers to enable companies to optimize their existing IT infrastructure and start consolidation projects for enhanced performance levels,' said Karim Saba, Sales Director - International Large Enterprise, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. 'The advanced fifth generation 1.3 GHz clock Sparc64 processor raises the overall system performance by 60 per cent. We are proud to say that the new generation of Primepower servers has industry-leading capabilities in performance, scalability and high availability. The Primepower family of servers is certainly going to take us closer to our objective of being a dominant player in the field of business critical computing, one of the two key core areas of FSC's mission to lead the Information Age.'

'The Middle East and Africa region is witnessing solid economic growth that is sure to fuel the demand for advanced IT infrastructures that empower companies to move on to the fast track to keep pace with global trends of doing business. No enterprises can afford to stay behind in this field, as IT systems form the backbone of today's businesses,' added Saba. 'Products like the Primepower servers have been specifically created to cater to the exacting demands of modern businesses.'

The Primepower Extended Architecture has enhanced partitioning functions called 'Extended Partitioning.' Depending on the model, the minimum number of CPUs contained in a single partition is two or four, providing more sophisticated and granular resource allocation. The number of partitions can go up to a maximum number of 15.

'The Primepower servers are designed to provide flexibility that forms a critical element in allowing round-the-clock functionality, a key need of most businesses. It lends itself to IT infrastructure consolidation, allowing multiple workloads running on multiple small servers to be consolidated into one higher performance server,' added Saba. The new Primepower series include the Primepower 900, 1500 and 2500. The Primepower 900, the smallest of the models, is scalable up to 16 processors and ideally deployed as a lower cost alternative for server consolidation, e-commerce and large application processing.

Primepower 1500, suitable large consolidation projects, is scalable up to 32 processors and can be deployed in standalone or multi-server clusters for high performance, availability and scalability.

Primepower 2500 is a 64-way and 128-way top model that brings mainframe levels of high availability with levels of up to 99.999 per cent. It is targeted at the server consolidation, data warehousing and ASP markets which require sophisticated dynamic partitioning combined with mainframe-class performance.
