Intercoil conducts 'Healthy Kids Week' in schools
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, May 23 - 2007 at 10:35
- PRESS RELEASE
Intercoil International is conducting a 'Healthy Kids Week' awareness campaign in collaboration with Medcare Hospital, Jumeirah and Right Bite Nutrition and Health Services, at two leading international schools in the UAE as part of the bedding company's corporate social responsibility program.
According to Mr Hassan Al-Hazeem, Managing Director of Intercoil International, "In our continuous effort to educate the public on healthy sleeping habits, we have embarked on various educational and health awareness campaigns in the past. Children are our primary concern for this year's campaign as issues such as obesity, lack of concentration and high absenteeism rates prevail rampantly in schools. As such, we hope by introducing the "Healthy Kids Week" in schools, these issues can be addressed and rectified through nutritional advice, proper sleep management and changes in lifestyle."
The campaign is supported by Right Bite Nutrition and Health Services and Medcare Hospital Jumeirah. According to Ms Nathalie Haddad, Managing Director, Right Bite Nutrition and Health Services, "Healthy eating is a behaviour that is acquired from childhood. Teaching the children of today to choose healthy food will prepare the foundation for a healthier tomorrow. Hence, with our participation in the "Healthy Kid's Week", we hope to teach children how to eat right and educate them on the perils of junk food."
Medcare Hospital, Jumeirah who are also partnering Intercoil in this campaign, hope to raise the awareness on the need for correct sleep postures and spinal health issues for children. Commenting on this, Mr Ala Atari, Chief Operating Officer, Medcare Hospital, said, "Instead of worrying about obesity and diabetes at a later stage, it is better to take preventive measures and incorporate a healthy diet and exercise plan, supported by a good night's sleep and regular sleep patterns. Correct sleeping postures and use of scientifically approved mattresses should be considered from a young age and hence this campaign provides the ideal platform to impart this information."
As part of the first phase of this campaign, a series of talks on healthy eating and good sleeping habits will be conducted at the Dubai International School and Etihad Primary School, Jumeirah. The talks will be conducted by a nutritionist from Right Bite Nutrition and Health Services and a physiotherapist from Medcare Hospital. The element of fun has also been infused into the campaign with games, quizzes and contests. The children stand to win prizes contributed by Intercoil by participating in the "Princess and the Pea" contest and "Boxing Ring" match.
