Materials Handling and Logistics opens today
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, May 27 - 2007 at 17:00
- PRESS RELEASE
The UAE's position as the region's leading centre for shipping and distribution was underlined today with the opening of Materials Handling & Logistics, the Middle East's largest trade fair for the freight, warehousing and transport industries.
According to Ms Amanda Westerman, Exhibition Manager of Materials Handling & Logistics, "In the two years since the last show, Dubai has maintained its headline status in the global shipping and logistics industry. Acquisitions such as Dubai World's purchase of P&O together with the launch of Dubai World Central are just two examples that keep Dubai at the epicentre of the industry."
Future planned expansion of Dubai's ports assure its elevation from its current ranking of seventh to challenging its international rivals such as Shanghai, Honk Kong and Singapore. The ripple effect throughout the economy is immense with larger and more dynamic facilities under construction. From the new airport at Jebel Ali, set to be larger than London's Heathrow, to the ultimate bonded free zone, Dubai Logistics City (DLC).
All of these developments speak volumes about why so many major firms have chosen to take part at the event, not least of all because DLC are a major supporter. More than 125 exhibitors including major multi-nationals such as Caterpillar Dealer For earthmoving, Materials Handling & Power Generating Equipment., who are distributed by Mohamed Abdulrahman Al Bahar as well as formidable companies from the UAE including Juma Al Majed, Triveni and Al Thika Packaging, are participating.
The event's impeccable credentials transcends its blue chip exhibitor list to embrace trade associations and major operators of sea and airports. In addition to the support provided by DLC, Materials Handling & Logistics has the backing of Dubai's Department of Civil Aviation, Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA), DSAA, SCLG, VDMA and Dubai silicone Oasis.
In keeping with the latest technologies, products and services available from exhibitors, the event organizers, Messe Frankfurt, have prepared a conference programme to run parallel to the exhibition on Monday and Tuesday. A myriad of topics are being presented, from best practices in supply chain management to the latest developments in FMCG distribution.
Mr Rashed Al Ansari, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Industrial City (DIC), will be on hand to present a first glimpse of plans for the new complex - a must attend event for all manufacturers and distributors.
DIC are also sponsors of the shows large, live demonstration area. This year's extensive schedule includes choreographed displays fork lift trucks, pallet inverters and other warehousing equipment.
