For this purpose, DIB chose the IntelliEnterprise solution, which is an integrated Intranet suite that includes Enterprise Portal, Content and Document Management, Collaboration, Dashboards, Search and Workflow modules. Scope, the exclusive distributor of IntellEnterprise in the ME, customized, integrated and rolled out the solution in under three months.

The initial phase of the project, which aims to develop a central communications platform, covers 5 out of the bank’s 25 departments including the Central Operations Department (COD), Human Resources, Marketing, IT and Administration departments. The second phase will cover the bank’s Treasury Department in addition to the remaining ten departments and focus on the BPM and workflow automation procedures.

“By launching the Intranet system we aim to reduce the pressure placed on our internal network by streamlining all internal communications, mostly in the form of e-mails, into one integrated, easily accessible portal,” said Musabbah AlQaizi Senior Vice President IT-Department, DIB. “Employees will now be able to view internal corporate news, collaborate more effectively with team members and keep updated on projects relevant to their departments on a continuous basis.”

Waleed Malash Intranet Project Manager-DIB estimates that the IntelliEnterprise system will increase employee efficiency by at least 20 percent over the next year. “Since rollout, we have witnessed a reduction in the number of e-mails being sent internally.

Scope worked closely with DIB’s IT department in mapping out the interrelationships between the departments. A committee was set up by the bank made up of representatives from each of the concerned department to ensure all requirements were considered. A blueprint outlining the relationships, workflow and content was then devised to guide the implementation process.

“Eighty to ninety percent of a typical enterprise’s knowledge resource exists as unstructured data in documents, reports, e-mail, graphics, images, audio and video files. These data sources are largely inaccessible from existing information systems,” said Fadi Abu-Ekab, general manager of Scope Information Systems. “IntelliEnterprise allows the sophisticated management of these resources, provides access to these unstructured data sources and streamlines the delivery of the content.”

To gain maximum benefit from the system, DIB had to make sure that its employees constantly access the Intranet sit and use it more actively. This was achieved by making the content more interactive by continually conducting online surveys, uploading general information such as prayer times, holiday calendar and general bank policies and procedures.

IntelliEnterprise runs within DIB’s network on two Microsoft servers with SQL database on the backend. The system supports also Arabic language functionality.

DIB is a public joint stock company and its share is quoted on the Dubai Financial Market. The bank enjoys a reputation as a leader and innovator in maintaining the quality, flexibility and accessibility of its products and services. In a very short space of time it has created market leading services and products that are setting benchmarks for the rest of the sector.

The bank has been proactive in creating partnerships and alliances at local and international level. DIB has adapted an aggressive expansion strategy, which started with the establishment of DIB Pakistan Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of DIB. The bank has also co-managed Pakistan's US$600 million first Sovereign Islamic bond issue that received a tremendous response from investors.

DIB opened its first representative office in Turkey to improve its access to that market. DIB has also acquired 60 per cent of its stake in Al Khartoum Bank and is also among the parents banks of Emirates and Sudan Bank (ESB). The steps taken mark DIB’s ambitious plans to roll out its operations into regional and international markets as part of its overall strategic plan.

The issue was arranged to raise funding for the second phase of the expansion of Dubai International Airport. The bank also managed financing of US$350 million for Nakheel. The financing made further capital available to build on Nakheel's blue chip portfolio of developments such as The Palm in Dubai.
