The IDF 2007 features a wide range of studios, interactive sessions, exhibitions and special events as well as a series of special visits to celebrate the power of design. Book launches, a Dubai Serpentine Gallery Mini-Marathon and the "What's Your Design Challenge?" at DesignLabs are some of the other highlights of the programme.
Khalid Al Malik, CEO of Tatweer, said:
"Our objective is to develop a programme which is both knowledge-intensive and outcome-rich, with the biggest international and regional names in design driving the agenda. Through this programme, we seek to earn the distinction of being the first interactive design platform in the Arab world to gather international guests of this calibre."
The opening ceremony also marked the unveiling of "netropolis", Michael Najjar's solo gallery show on future cities. Najjar's "netropolis" explores the current development of global mega cities — sprawling urban masses whose space is too big and elusive for its inhabitants to comprehend.
Other knowledge-oriented and interactive sessions feature names such as Bernard Khoury, Architect, DW5, Lebanon, Karim Rashid, Designer, Karim Rashid Inc., USA; Sheikh Majed Al Sabah, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Villa Moda, Kuwait; and His Excellency Omar Maani, Mayor of Amman.
