The top 13 winners generated AED13.4 million in 'profit' during the game. Although Skyline College led the competition during the first three weeks of the game, UAE University managed to earn the top three positions during the last week of the game
Hassan Al Sirkal, Director of Operations, DFM, said: 'Over the past five years DFM's online stock game has provided a unique, interactive learning opportunity for students. The game proved to have a positive influence on the young generation, who are now more aware of how stock markets function.'
'The number of participants has been increasing since the launch of the game in 2003. This reflects the success of this competition, with a total of 1,500 students from 52 colleges and universities that participated in the event. DFM will attract new schools during the next round, and we will also take measures to open the door for increased participation from overseas schools,' he added.
Dr. Nizar Mousa Sahawneh, Assistant Professor, Skyline College, said: 'Our college has been participating in the game since 2003. The game is now part of our Business and Financial Administration curriculum. Students take part in the game and then submit a report by the end of the competition. The game has contributed to enhanced skills and more profound knowledge about companies, dividends and yields, Initial Public Offerings and other important aspects of the economy.'
He added: 'DFM's online stock game assists educational institutions to spread awareness on how to set a proper strategic investment approach. The game showed students that successful investors are those who work on widening their knowledge and set a long-term investment plan.'
Hussein Assaad Sadaka, a Business Administration student at UAE University, placed first in the game. Speaking about his experience, Sadaka said: 'The game is an innovative initiative that business students are always keen to experience. Students experienced the merits of diversifying portfolios, understanding fundamentals and taking a long-term perspective on investing.'
Hussein Assaad Sadaka from UAE University placed first in the educational competition with 'profits' totaling AED 1.323 million, followed by Hasan Bassam Adi with a total profit of AED 1.315 million, and Yazen Assaad Sadaka with a total profit of AED 1.312 million.
Among female students participating in the contest, Farah Sabbar from Skyline College placed first with a total profit of AED 1.162 million, followed by Trupti Ashar from Skyline College with a total profit of AED 1.062 million, and Sana Hafeez from Skyline College with a total profit of AED 859,718.
Among the participating colleges and schools, UAE University placed first, while Skyline College won the best Educational Institution Award.

Dubai Financial Market (DFM) today distributed awards to winners of its online stock game, which witnessed fierce competition between students of colleges, universities, and schools from across the UAE.
