- PRESS RELEASE
HE Minister of Education Dr. Majed Bin Ali Al Noaimi received Batelco Chairman Shaikh Hamad Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa at the Ministry of Education to mark the national company's commitment to the King Hamad Schools of the Future Project.
The King Hamad Schools of the Future project aims at reforming the educational system by employing ICT technology in the educational process. Batelco, the project's main sponsor, is providing connectivity and management and a number of schools and administration sites have already been connected to Batelco's MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) network. The MPLS network is capable of carrying data, voice, video and internet, internally between several dedicated sites. This telecommunications infrastructure, when complete, will be as advanced as any available in the world today. The project's scope aspires to have 220 sites including secondary, intermediate and primary schools, connected to the central system by 2008.
"Investment in education is of prime importance and will empower future generations with the skills necessary to transform the Kingdom into a knowledge-based economy," said Dr. Al Noaimi.
Shaikh Hamad said that Batelco is delighted to contribute to e-learning initiatives such as the King Hamad Schools of the Future project which will provide the Kingdom with the business and political leaders of tomorrow.
Supporting charitable causes and contributing to a wide range of education and health initiatives remains a priority for Batelco.
"Today's contribution completes our commitment, totaling BD1.5 million, to the King Hamad Schools of the Future project," said Shaikh Hamad.
