Qatar project gets Kyoto approval

The United Nations has approved a major Kyoto Protocol project in Qatar, Reuters reported. Qatar Petroleum's Al-Shaheen Oil Field Gas Recovery and Utilization project will cut an estimated 2.5m tonnes a year of greenhouse gas emissions until 2014. The plant is operated by Maersk Qatar Oil, part of Denmark's A.P. Moeller-Maersk. It falls under the UN's Clean Development Mechanism.
