Speaking at a well-attended seminar at the Dubai Ladies Club auditorium, Dr. Wafaa Ayesh, a nutritionist practicing at Rashid Hospital, blamed modern lifestyles and lack of exercise for the increasing number of obesity cases. Women were more prone to such lifestyles, she said.

"Eating right is a crucial part of being healthy and staying healthy. With the correct balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals, we can all combat health problems such as obesity and asthma," Dr. Wafaa told the gathering of more than 150 women. "Maintaining a proper diet and ensuring a hygienic home environment are important to prevent obesity and asthma."

The event was organised by global digital appliances leader LG Electronics in association with the Dubai Ladies Club to celebrate the recent launch of LG's Healthy Living Collection, a range of digital appliances designed to provide healthy indoor environments.

Dr. Wafaa also focused on soluble and insoluble fats, describing the former as an essential source of energy and the latter as avoidable. She also stressed the importance of including carbohydrates into one's diet as they are an important source of energy.

Another aspect that Dr. Wafaa focused on was the difference in diets across various regions of the world. Having traveled widely through Canada, she highlighted the significance of diet differences between the Middle East and Canada. Obesity and asthma are common health problems facing women in the Middle East, which are most easily combated by regular exercise and drinking at least eight glasses of water a day.

LG is introducing its full health-friendly product line, including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, light wave ovens, vacuum cleaners and air purifiers. The company was the first to begin focusing on the health-focused products, and has created a completely unique market for the home appliance industry while at the same time helping consumers have cleaner and healthier homes.
