To be under the patronage of His Excellency Mohamed bin Dha'en Al Hamli, the UAE Minister of Energy and President of the OPEC Conference.

Established in 1977, the IAEE is an international non-profit professional organization whose members include business, government, academic and other professionals concerned with energy and related issues. It was set up with a mission to advance the understanding and application of economics across all aspects of energy, and promote communication among professionals in the energy sector.

Commenting on the establishment of IAEE's UAE affiliate, Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC, said: "A substantial energy knowledge base is developing in the UAE, as more and more energy companies make the country their regional headquarters. The setting up of a UAE affiliate of the IAEE will help harness this knowledge base by establishing a solid group of energy professionals from the most influential government, corporate and academic circles for networking, discussion, education and exchange of ideas on energy issues."

The Energy Department at DMCC will help set up the UAE affiliate and attract members to it, with the aim of establishing a national network of energy professionals. The group's activities will focus on a series of prestigious lectures by global energy experts each year, as well as important networking opportunities.

The IAEE helps facilitate worldwide information flow and exchange of ideas on energy issues, supports high quality research, and enables the development and education of students and energy professionals. It accomplishes this through providing access to leading edge publications and electronic media, organizing international and regional conferences, and building networks of concerned energy professionals.

Currently, the IAEE has over 3,300 members in more than 60 countries. The newly established UAE affiliate will be the first one in the GCC, with membership open to all energy professionals. It will join the current group of international affiliates, which includes Brazil, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Turkey, UK and the USA.
