- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, June 07 - 2007 at 08:29
- PRESS RELEASE
SANYO Gulf FZE commemorated the World Environment Day, in collaboration with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), UAE's dedicated non-profit organization, in line with SANYO's major commitment to protect the environment.
The ceremony was headed by H.E. Mohamed Saqr Al-Asam, Assistant Undersecretary for Ministry of Environment & Water, UAE, Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson, Emirates Environmental Group and Akemi Yamamoto, General Manager at SANYO Gulf FZE. A large number of participating students along with their parents and companies' representatives also attended the ceremony.
This is the second consecutive successful year that SANYO Gulf and EEG have received an overwhelming response from schools. Since the launch of the program, the dry cell battery collection campaign has created excitement among school children. This year the collection count amounted to 561 kgs, with the Westminster School collecting the highest number with 275 kg of batteries alone. The school was awarded a SANYO projector. Second and third position winners were presented with the digital movie cameras HD1 and Xacti CG6 respectively.
Tetsuji Okui, Managing Director at SANYO Gulf FZE commented: "We are continuing our commitment to contribute to the healthy environment by manufacturing eco-friendly technologies for the well-being of the people and protecting our planet. SANYO aims to educate people about protecting and caring for the environment". "A clean and healthy environment is essential to make the earth a safer and enjoyable place to live in", Mr. Okui stated.
Mr. Okui explained that it was SANYO's conscious decision to sponsor and play an active role in efforts that ensure a safe and healthy environment, in accordance with the company's vision Think GAIA (the living earth). "In line with our philosophy and corporate social responsibility that is "Restore a beautiful Earth to future generations", children, who are the custodians of the future, should be encouraged to create a drive to improve the environment".
EEG, a pioneering non-government organization, organizes numerous campaigns such as can, paper, battery, toner, glass and plastic collection. This year, SANYO Gulf has supported the dry cell battery collection drive and prize distribution ceremony. Both the organizations encourage community involvement in environmental programs.
EEG Chairperson Habiba Al Marashi stated: "Every individual and organization has a social responsibility that starts with the immediate environment and goes beyond to the extended environment. To translate this responsibility into action one has to reduce consumption of non renewable resources, conserve renewable resources and avoid unnecessary wastage of natural resources. The three principles that are 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' offer an excellent opportunity for all of this. EEG is happy that SANYO is supporting the three 'Rs'. We thank SANYO for partnering with EEG and look forward to their continued support to enable us to expand this program across other sectors."
