Reef Island appoints main contractor

Reef Island has signed on Al Hamad Contracting Company to be the main contractor for the first phase of its development.

The BD60 million, 18 month, contract to build eight elite residential buildings, 49 beach villas and 14 luxury villas at Bahrain's landmark project, was signed last week at the Reef Island offices in Al Moayyed Tower in Manama.

Reef Island project manager Waleed Hayek said the signing with Al Hamad is part of their obsession with safety, reliability and commitment. "This is a prestigious project where reliability and commitment counts the most, in addition to safety. The project will be an icon in Bahrain so we need some of the best-known names to be involved in it."

Mr. Hayek said the entire development will be built in an area of 6.23 million square feet island on the shores of Manama hosting luxurious residential designs, various open areas and vibrant parts all over the property.

"The island will comprise of 39 residential buildings, 65 villas, 49 beach villas and a five star hotel. It will also feature a Spa, shopping mall, Well Care Center, a marina and a yacht club."

He said the island will have two phases as completion dates where the first will wrap up early 2009 & the second will be concluded at the end of 2010.

Company chairman Nashat Farhan Sahawneh said they have been extremely encouraged with the latest signing which brings to the fore once again their commendable performance in the kingdom.

"We welcome projects of all types and are totally committed to delivering the highest level of value and service to our clients because we strongly believe that today's projects are tomorrow's legacy," he said.

Lulu Tourism Company General Manager, Elias Karaan, said they are looking forward to more involvement in several other upcoming projects in the country.
