'Consumers and businesses in Bahrain will benefit when new operators will use Batelco's network to deliver services,' commented Batelco Chief Executive Peter Kaliaropoulos.
'We have had some intense discussions with the TRA in the last few weeks about what new operators should pay. Our concern has always been one of unfair commercial arrangements imposed on Batelco by the TRA.'
'Our access network is available to all licensed operators and the determination of a fair access cost will always be fiercely debated with the TRA - it is a given in our industry, globally, between the incumbent and the Regulator,' said Mr. Kaliaropoulos.
'The TRA considered our submission and has now issued a legal order which we will abide by. We can continue to publicly debate the merits of the Order or just get on with the job of delivering better service and value to customers in Bahrain.'
'Regulation will impact our business but we need to focus on our customers - that's the priority. We have to keep transforming Batelco, creating a more competitive company and improve our operational efficiencies,' concluded Mr. Kaliaropoulos.
New operators to benefit from Batelco's network infrastructure in Bahrain
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued to Batelco the non-confidential version of its Reference Access Offer (RAO), which details services and corresponding pricing structure that Batelco has to offer to other licensed operators for the use of its network.
