Representatives from the Australian Government, MLA, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and the Abu Dhabi Men's College, will farewell the selected students at a reception being held at the Hilton Hotel tonight.

In 2001 Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) initiated a 2-week international meat inspection study program which was designed for the food inspection Diploma and Higher Diploma programs students of Abu Dhabi Men's College (ADMC). The objective of the 10-day study program is to give the future meat and food inspectors of Abu Dhabi, international exposure to the advanced meat production and processing technologies, food and meat safety, export import inspection strategies and conformity to the international standards.

MLA in conjunction with Regency Institutes of TAFE, Adelaide, South Australia, has developed an excellent study program, which has been very beneficial to the professional activities of the food and meat inspectors.

This program consists of theory sessions, field visits and laboratory investigations related to food and meat inspection including the latest biotechnology methods. Emphasis is on the importance of Meat Quality Assurance systems used in the Australian Meat Industry which was paramount in achieving the quality of excellence associated with Australian meats.

The students work closely with the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) Inspectors learning the important aspects of inspection for imported and exported meat products. In this regard a significant emphasis is placed on the production of Halal Meats and the students are able to witness all the procedures leading up to Halal meat production. The students also visit stockyards and feedlots.

Over the years MLA has been instrumental in providing excellent training opportunities for the future inspectors of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

This summer, the 7th cohort of students is scheduled to undergo the training program in Australia.
