And it proved successful as the giant came out victorious in 1st 2 rounds of the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC).

The STCC was the first production car championship ever in which Bioethanol (E85) is allowed. This fuel provides an overall saving in fossil CO2 tailpipe emissions of up to 80% compared to its petrol equivalent. Robert Dahlgren of Polestar Racing, Volvo Cars' official STCC team, commented from the winning podium: "Above all, this is a victory for the environment!" In Sweden, the STCC is seen as a valuable opportunity for Volvo to be involved and lead the development of greener motor sport. Volvo Cars considers environment as one of its top priorities, hence the cooperation with international public researchers, manufacturers and agencies to develop sustainable mobility solution. Consequently, the automotive giant uses innovations like flexi-fuel ethanol-buming engines to reduce CO2 emissions and oil consumption.

In Addition to this Innovation, every Volvo Car is equipped with an Interior Air Quality System to help keep the Car Cabins clean and fresh.
Volvo's environmental initiatives could soon prove effective in the region following the announcement by the UAE government to introduce a 'Green City' in Abu Dhabi. Dubai, a city dedicated to environmental issues, has also announced plans to build the world's largest 'Green building' in the world.

"Volvo winning the first two races while running on E85 is not only great news for Volvo but also for the environment, which is one of Volvo's core values. This confirms that Volvo can deliver speed, reliability and excitement both on and off the race track and that we can do it in an eco-friendly way".

We have already seen first signs of environmental awareness in the Middle East and I have no doubt that this will continue. I am confident that Volvo can play its part in this development", Greg Maruszewski, Regional Managing Director in Volvo GCC, stated.
