Daman sheds light on challenges faced in implementing health insurance

As a part of its strategy to enhance the healthcare sector in the country and to strengthen its ties with its partners in the Health Insurance Scheme, the National Health Insurance Company - Daman held its first Daman Network Conference yesterday at the Rotana Beach Hotel and Towers.

Attended by local and regional prominent healthcare figures, the conference shed light on various challenges faced by the medical service providers in the region and proposed solutions to enhance the healthcare system. The conference also discussed the implementation of the Health Insurance Scheme, and its effects on the operations of the healthcare institutions.

"With the launch of the new Health Insurance Scheme, many challenges were faced by all the parties involved, which instigated the need to strengthen ties and develop communication channels to facilitate the adoption of processes and procedures. This conference brings together the various parties involved in the Health Insurance Scheme, and industry specialists to discuss issues related to the healthcare system in the country, and helps us coordinate with the entities to take measures that will best suit the community,"


said Dr. Michael Bitzer, CEO of Daman.

Commencing the conference, Mr. Axel Tettenborn, COO of Daman, discussed key issues that Daman had faced when first implementing the Health Insurance Law. Eng. Sobhi Batterjee, CEO and President of Saudi German Hospitals Group then introduced the Private Hospital's perspective of medical insurance, which was followed by lectures given by Mr. Sakkie Van Der Vyver, Manager of the Welcare Hospital, and Dr. Franz Benstetter, representative of Munich-Re.

Representing the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi, Dr. Nazeeh Dandan held a lecture about the role of the Health Authority and Health System Financing in implementing the Health Insurance Law, its regulations and the future steps to be followed in this respect. Following their lecture, Dr. Kassem Alom, Managing Director of Al Noor Hospital discussed the effect of the compulsory health insurance on private healthcare providers.

This was followed with a speech by Dr. Ezzat Agamy, the Network Director at Daman:" We establish relations with various Healthcare providers and contract with them based on many criteria that will result in the expansion of Daman's providers network. Daman sets certain standards that measure health care services in order to ensure the highest quality of services provided to Daman members. Daman is also planning to add extra annual evaluation for quality standards, that providers need to meet. We look forward to continue this cooperation that will develop the Health care sector in the UAE"

For this purpose we have organized this conference to exchange knowledge and expertise with some of the region's prominent healthcare professionals, and introduce new solutions that improve the healthcare service provided to the community," concluded Dr. Bitzer.
