Etisalat opens mobile phone recycling collection points across UAE
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, June 17 - 2007 at 15:37
- PRESS RELEASE
Etisalat today announced the opening of mobile phone recycling collection points at its business centers across the UAE.
Anyone who has bought a new mobile phone or received one as a gift can now safely dispose of their old device by bringing it to an Etisalat Business Centre and depositing the phone in a specially marked box. These mobile phones will then be taken to a special facility in Dubai Investment Park, before being sorted and shipped to manufacturers for recycling or safe destruction.
"Etisalat is extremely proud to participate in this worthy initiative that supports the National Strategy of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in promoting a national campaign that advocates the conservation of natural resources and boosts environmental awareness," said Nasser bin Obood, Chief Corporate Affairs Officers, Etisalat. "In this campaign, Etisalat will establish mobile phone collection bins at each of our business centers across all seven emirates. We will also sponsor awareness building advertising and public relations campaigns to educate people on the safe disposal of mobile phones."
Etisalat has a history of promoting environmentally friendly practices within the field of telecommunications. The company has always abided by international standards in the placement of mobile base stations and today, Etisalat offer consumers a variety of environmentally friendly payment solutions to remove the need for recharge cards. Just this year Etisalat introduced new Mobile Payment and Balance Transfer services to bring electronic credit transfer to the UAE.
"I congratulate our partners in this project for bringing this campaign to reality. I am certain that our consortium of companies, lead by the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Environment and Water, in close association with the UAE Federal Environment Agency, will make a difference - for today and tomorrow," Nasser bin Obood concluded.
