Obese survive heart surgery

Obese heart attack patients are less likely to die after treatment than those with a normal bodyweight, according to a German and Swiss study reported in the European Heart Journal. The study, involving 1,676 patients, found that obese people were less than half as likely to die in the three years after treatment. Body chemistry is thought to play a role, with obese people having lower levels of blood platelets which can affect clotting.
