In this role, Tony will be responsible for developing and expanding the company's regional business, working closely with the local channel partners on offering Hitachi's strategic initiatives to Middle East organisations. These initiatives include Business Continuity, Virtualisation, Compliance and Network Attached Storage (NAS).

Tony has over 20 years experience in the IT industry, the last seven of which have been with Hitachi Data Systems as Director of Strategic Alliances. In this role he was responsible for developing business with Sun Microsystems in Europe, Middle East and Africa. His expertise comes from consulting, sales management and channel management positions.

Patrick Bonelli, General Manager, Hitachi Data Systems, Mediterranean, Middle East & Africa commented:

"Tony brings with him his strong experience in leadership, partner management and his in depth understanding of the IT market. Under his leadership, Hitachi in the Middle East will give its partners clear direction and strong commitment to support them in strengthening Hitachi's presence in the region. For our customers it means that they will have direct and local access to a seasoned Hitachi manager who is trusted and respected throughout the Hitachi organization."

Hitachi Data Systems had established its regional head office in Dubai Internet City in May 2004, with a team of three people and a network of three partners: Naizak, Sun Microsystems and STME. Since then the company has added resources, signed up Mideast Data Systems and acquired customers in a number of industries including broadcasting and aviation.

"The business environment in the Middle East, particularly the Gulf is constantly changing. It is one of the fastest growing regions today. Organisations are facing increased regulation, stock market fluctuations, mergers and acquisitions - factors that certainly impact growth and information management," said Tony Ward. "My work with Hitachi over the past few years has brought me to the region on several visits, but now is a particularly exciting time to be part of the changes happening here, especially with new developments with Hitachi's solutions, which will be instrumental in our success and our partners' as well."
