Located in the Central Hall of the Modhesh Fun City the Greenpeace stall is a part of the Arts and Crafts Zone where it relays the message of recycling and reducing waste. The stall is open to public throughout the DSS daily from 10am to 10pm and on weekends from 3pm to 11pm on Fridays and 10am to 11pm on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Says Yousif Mubarak, DSS Events, Operations and Services Director, 'We aim to attract young children as well as their parents to understand the need to save the environment. MFC is the ideal venue to reach out to children and their parents to get the green message across which eventually aims to build a better tomorrow. Here, children are taught to value precious natural resources such as paper and do their bit to save the earth. They are trained to use paper judiciously in order to conserve the natural forests which are fast being depleted from the face of the earth. They are also taught to make art objects from recycled paper and glass and are taught to differentiate between plastic and paper. With their presence at the Modhesh Fun City Greenpeace aims to reach out to the children and educate them early in life about the problems plaguing our beautiful planet.'
Adds Elia Manouf, the representative of Greenpeace from Lebanon, 'We chose to have a stand at the Modhesh Fun City because it is a popular venue for families and provides a golden opportunity to reach out to a large number of people at the same time.'
He also added that the organisation would be participating in the Nature Surprises to raise environment awareness among people of all ages. Greenpeace has initiated two major campaigns in the UAE namely the energy campaign which proposes to end the use of solid energy producing greenhouse gases and a campaign to label genetically modified foods. In the past six months of their campaigning in the UAE the organisation has received a very positive response from various segments of society and people from different backgrounds and nationalities.
Running throughout the Dubai Summer Surprises from June 21 to August 31, the Modhesh Fun City is open to public from 10am to 10pm on weekdays and 10am to 11pm on Thursdays and Saturdays and 3pm to 11pm on Fridays.

Launched in 1998, Dubai Summer Surprises was conceived as the foremost family entertainment event during the summer season for the whole of GCC. Targeted at visitors from outside the UAE and within the country, DSS has been a major entertainment and shopping attraction since its inception and witnessed 1,875,000 visitors in the year 2006 compared to 600,000 in 1998. The event has succeeded in positioning Dubai as the leading summer destination in the region.
Organised by government departments with the cooperation of the public sector, the ten-week event is a celebration of different surprises that offer visitors and shoppers the perfect family entertainment opportunity and the ideal combination of shopping and adventure. Over the years DSS has hosted numerous surprises such as Food, Water, Global, Ice, Flower, Sports, Heritage, Arts, Techno, Cartoons, Colour, Sweets, Knowledge, and Back-2-School. The summer event lays special emphasis on children, who are provided all the opportunities to hone their skills while enjoying a fun-packed ten weeks of activities. DSS also has its own mascot, Modhesh, the ever smiling brand ambassador who embodies everything that the event stands for - fun, excitement, brightness and unlimited joy for children.
Dubai Summer Surprises as a venture has contributed significantly to the economy of Dubai and continues to do so by enhancing different economic sectors during a lean period of economic activity in summer. An increase in visitor expenditure from AED 850 million in 1998 to AED 2.57 billion in 2006 is a clear indication of the event's ability to drive economic growth during summer. Into its tenth year, Dubai Summer Surprises has come a long way by building on the successes of the previous editions and aims to create a benchmark for future years to provide the three most important characteristics of the event - shopping, winning, and entertainment.
