  • PRESS RELEASE

Mall of the Emirates, the world's first shopping resort, plans to keep visitors entertained during the 10 weeks of Dubai Summer Surprises with a host of shows and events that will delight children and adults alike.

A comprehensive programme means that the mall will be hosting over 30 different events this summer.

The Galleria will play host to the most spectacular of these activities including a 27m high-dive event, a children's fairy tale ice show performed by Olympic skaters, a science exhibit highlighting the power of lightning, a performance art event featuring world-renowned artist David Mach and a week long Barbie event.

Faud Monsoor Sharaf, General Manager of Mall of the Emirates, said, "Our 10-weeks of non-stop action and awe-inspiring stunts will keep customers riveted for more! This year's acts provide an array of entertainment for young and old and promise visitors and unforgettable experience!"

Our DSS events will kick-off with the breathtaking High dive show (21-30 June), part of the Adventure Surprises, where visitors will witness death-defying dives as five swimmers jump from a specially-designed 27 metre high tower into a 3 metre deep pool! The displays will include Olympic, acrobatic, comedy and fire dives.

One of the highlights of last year's festival, the Fairytale ice shows is returning to the mall by popular demand from the 16th-25th of July. The Magical Carousel will form the centrepiece of the performance as sixteen talented Eastern European skaters perform on a 16 metre long ice rink with spectacular backdrops and light effects.

Another much awaited event is arrival of David Mach, a world class international phenomenon, who will be creating art before your eyes on a giant 4m high canvas (26 July - 4 August). As recycling and environmental issues have become more topical in Dubai, The Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Center (DUCTAC) will be commissioning local and international artists to build temporary public artworks in the galleria area of MOE using everyday throwaway objects such as plastic bottles, bags, newspapers, and postcards. David Mach, whose work is highly sought after and exhibited in the world's leading art houses and collections, will be using just postcard from Dubai to create his 4m masterpiece.

An electrifying lightning show will allow you to witness the awesome power of this natural phenomenon first hand (August 6 - August 15). Stories of death defying close encounters, displays of artifacts which have been struck by lightning and a real captive lightning storm will fascinate and educate young and old.

Other highlights include a Barbie event sponsored by Mattel and a specially themed DSS stage that will host dance performances, comedy acts and some of the most famous children's characters including Barney. This stage is located near Centrepoint at the east end of the centre.

Sharaf added, "We predict over 6 million visitors will come through our doors during the 10 week period and anticipate sales of over 1 billion making this years Dubai Summer Surprises the most successful so far."
