DSS supports 1st Mental Health International Conference

The 1st Mental Health International Conference 'Direct and Indirect Self-Destructive Behaviours and Mental Health Disorders -Trans-Cultural Differences' starts today at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel Dubai.
The first of its kind in the region, the conference will be held under the Patronage of HE Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education. Due to the importance of this conference and the magnitude of its speakers, delegates are registering from all over the gulf, Middle East, Europe and Africa to attend. This Conference was approved and granted Continuing Medical Education Credits by the World Psychiatric Association.
The conference is a major scientific event in the area of Psychiatry and Psychology and aims at spreading awareness among the community and specialists on Current research and findings on the methodology and clinical practices of treating people with self-destructive behaviour, current treatment on self-destructive behaviour, medically and psychologically, Preventive strategies on self-destructive behaviour, and Parents' role and education on the issue for the purpose of preventing their children from self-destructive behaviour disorder.
Laila Suhail, DSS executive project director, DSS office said: "Since its inception, DSS has always addressed the children's needs and issues. Its customized edutainment events and attractions are carefully presented to develop their skills and enhance their mental abilities in their early ages."
"We view this conference as an important step in the right direction on the path of tackling this significant social issue that affects our children. Our support for this important initiative comes in line with our corporate social responsibility towards the UAE community in general and the children in particular."
Dr. Nadia Buhannad, President-Emirates Psychological Association said: "One of the main aims of EPA organising this conference is to raise awareness in the local community of the several mental and physiological illnesses. With all the pressures and the fast pace of life that the community is being subjected to, these illnesses can affect any one. The existing strategies used for treating self-destructive behaviour are still limited, in particular in the Arab world. We hope that this conference will help shed the light on this dangerous mental illness."
"We are confident that this conference will be of great medical value, which in its turn will reflect positively on the healthcare services and systems within the UAE and will enable it to reach higher standards of medical and social awareness among the UAE Community; therefore, we will be working hard and hoping to organize this event annually long with leading institutions in the field."
The panel of speakers include Prof Jean Pierre Soubrier, Chairman Scientific Section - World Psychiatric Association, Advisor to World Health Organization, Prof Abdel-Sattar Ibrahim, Ph.D., member of APA and Consultant Psychologist. Dr. Veronique Narboni, a General practitioner. And a Guest Researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, in the National Swedish and Stockholm county Centre, in addition to Dr. Buhannad and other renown specialists.
