- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, June 28 - 2007 at 09:05
- PRESS RELEASE
The second week of Dubai Summer Surprises will find the Ten Surprises going through its first rotation as the participating malls prepare for another exciting week of Surprises from June 28th to July 4th. The rotation ensures that visitors get to see all the Surprises irrespective of the mall they choose to visit.
The first week of the Ten Surprises opened in a grand fashion and witnessed a huge response from residents and tourists as the host malls organized special events to announce the beginning of ten weeks of excitement and entertainment. The venues attracted significant crowds as enthusiastic visitors were anxious to know what the special tenth edition of DSS had in store for them.
The Ten Surprises are an integral part of DSS since 1998 as the Surprises have provided world-class entertainment to local, regional, and international visitors over the summer. The year 2007 marks the beginning of a new era for DSS, and the Ten Surprises as well. The rotation of the Surprises in the malls is meant to ensure that visitors will not miss any Surprise.
Dubai's shopping malls have played a crucial role in the success of DSS by either sponsoring the event or hosting the Surprises. During DSS 2007, the malls will have a significant task as each of the venues will host a greater number of activities for two-and-a-half-months.
Eesa Adham, President of the Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG) said, "The Dubai Shopping Malls Group is greatly delighted to partner with the Dubai Summer Surprises in yet another innovative, fun filled and rewarding summer promotion during this year's DSS. The aim of the DSMG is to create more excitement with each passing year and enrich the unique shopping experience that Dubai offers its residents and visitors."
The Ten Surprises will be held according to the following schedules for the second week: Art Surprises at BurJuman from 5 to 10pm; Global Surprises at Ibn Battuta Mall from 5 to 10pm; Nature Surprises at Mall of the Emirates from 5 to 10pm; Adventure Surprises at Times Square Center from 5:30 to 8pm; Knowledge Surprises at Reef Mall from 5 to 9:30pm; Food Surprises at Al Ghurair City from 5:30 to 10pm; Heritage Surprises at Dubai Festival City from 7 to 9pm; Flower Surprises at Mercato from 5:30 to 9:30pm; Cartoon Surprises at Deira City Centre from 5 to 10pm; and Comedy Surprises at Century Mall from 5 to 10pm.
The tenth anniversary of Dubai Summer Surprises is a landmark in the history of the event that witnessed about 1,875,000 visitors in the year 2006. Since its inception in 1998, consumer spending during DSS has gone up from AED 850 million to a massive AED 2.57 billion in 2006, highlighting the popularity of this summer event amongst local, regional, and international visitors.

Launched in 1998, Dubai Summer Surprises was conceived as the foremost family entertainment event during the summer season for the whole of GCC. Targeted at visitors from outside the UAE and within the country, DSS has been a major entertainment and shopping attraction since its inception and witnessed 1,875,000 visitors in the year 2006 compared to 600,000 in 1998. The event has succeeded in positioning Dubai as the leading summer destination in the region.
The ten-week event is a celebration of different surprises that offer visitors and shoppers the perfect family entertainment opportunity and the ideal combination of shopping and adventure. Over the years DSS has hosted numerous surprises such as Food, Water, Global, Ice, Flower, Sports, Heritage, Arts, Techno, Cartoons, Colour, Sweets, Knowledge, and Back-2-School. The summer event lays special emphasis on children, who are provided all the opportunities to hone their skills while enjoying a fun-packed ten weeks of activities. DSS also has its own mascot, Modhesh, the ever smiling brand ambassador who embodies everything that the event stands for - fun, excitement, brightness and unlimited joy for children.
Dubai Summer Surprises as a venture has contributed significantly to the economy of Dubai and continues to do so by enhancing different economic sectors during a lean period of economic activity in summer. An increase in visitor expenditure from AED 850 million in 1998 to AED 2.57 billion in 2006 is a clear indication of the event's ability to drive economic growth during summer. Into its tenth year, Dubai Summer Surprises has come a long way by building on the successes of the previous editions and aims to create a benchmark for future years to provide the three most important characteristics of the event - shopping, winning, and entertainment.
