Firms eye $2bn Qatar plant

Foreign companies are vying to win the contract for the $2bn Ras Laffan C independent water and power plant project in Qatar, reported Reuters. The facility will be the biggest in the country, with a capacity of 2,600 megawatts and 55 million gallons of water per day. Sources say four consortia led by International Power, the Marubeni Corporation, Suez and the AES Corporation have already pre-qualified.
