Omantel confirmed that it has received notification from the Higher Council for Communications and Information Technology in the State of Qatar that its consortium, which includes Omantel, Belgium Telecom Company (Belgacom) and other partners, has been qualified to bid for the second license for mobile phone providers in Qatar.
It is expected that the Higher Council for Communications and Information Technology would announce the winner of the license next October.
Omantel said that its entering into the competition to win second mobile phone license in the State of Qatar is part of the company's strategic plans to involve, individually or collectively, in international investments, tap new external markets, diversify its income mix and expand the size of its activities as well as explore new horizons in international ever growing telecom markets.
