DSG to organise Best Practice Forum for regional media leaders

The Dubai School of Government (DSG) launched yesterday a Best Practice Forum as part of its Media Leadership Programme to discuss 21st century challenges facing the media and ways to strike a balance between media and advertising.

The one-day forum to be held at DSG premises, marks the final component of the 12-month long leadership development programme designed for media leaders in the region. The objective is to introduce new sets of ideas and challenges for the media in terms of accuracy, neutrality and transparency in the delivery of news.

Dr.Yasar Jarrar, Executive Dean of DSG, said:

"Beaturing a mix of presentations and extensive discussions, the Forum provides a flexible and interactive setting for the participants and speakers alike. This will help them engage one another with ease and share their experiences in dealing with specific challenges within the media sector."


Moderated by media expert Ghassan Tahboob, the Forum will host a number of prominent speakers including Mona Al Marri, Chairperson of Dubai Press Club; Hazim Jalal, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers; Mohamed Alaian, Director, Al Ghad Newspaper, Jordan; Lydia Gorgie of Agence France Presse and, Sameer Sabah of Reuters.

Dr.Jarrar added: "The DSG Forum is part of our overall strategy to create knowledge, disseminate best practice and train policy makers in the Arab world in various sectors, including media. This is in line with our commitment to empower leaders and shape the region's future."

The DSG is developing strong capabilities to support research and teaching programmes including applied research in public policy and management; Master's degrees in public policy and administration; executive education sessions for senior officials and knowledge forums for scholars and policy makers.

The school offers a range of customised and open enrolment programmes through its faculty and in cooperation with international partners. The partners include Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore, and a network of renowned experts.

A Regional Institution for the Arab World

The Dubai School of Government is a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world. Established in 2004 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the school aims to promote good governance by enhancing the region's capacity for effective public policy.
