The display is one of the many Mega Events being held in malls during DSS 2007. Organised by the DSS Office in association with Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the exhibition is open from 10am to 10pm until July 14, 2007.

Organised since 2005, 'The Collectors' is an ideal forum that aims to bring together collectors of various objects under one roof. For the first time since its inception, the event includes a dedicated area for displaying various items related to the late HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The exhibition is bound to appeal to all memorabilia lovers and even shoppers who would like to have a glimpse of rare collections of coins, photographs, sports and classic cars, ancient Islamic manuscripts, watches, medals, cameras, paintings, stamps and many other collectibles.

Unlike previous years, exhibits this year are being shown in a unique fashion. The display units have been made to resemble miniature wind towers, giving a unifying cultural theme to the event. The nine-day event has attracted 17 participants who will showcase about 40 different collections.

Sawsun Al Rahma, one among the participants in the exhibition, is delighted that she is able to participate this year. "In the previous editions, I would cover this exhibition in my capacity as a journalist at Abu Dhabi TV and miss out on the opportunity to display my collection of rare coins and stamps, so I'm delighted to be actually participating this year."

Juma Al Dhermaki is another participant who is looking forward to showcase a unique collection themed on the late HH Sheikh Zayed. "It is laudable on the part of DSS to provide an avenue like 'The Collectors' for exhibitors to showcase some exclusive collections to the general public. I'm currently working on a book that details the literary works on a great visionary and leader, the late HH Sheikh Zayed, and I'll also be displaying coins and stamps issued on him."

The mega events in malls are slated to attract a significant number of visitors this year due its popularity in showcasing a variety of entertainment activities. The Mega In-Mall Events for this year include activities targeting all visitors and residents of the UAE.

Launched in 1998, Dubai Summer Surprises was conceived as the foremost family entertainment event during the summer season for the whole of GCC. Targeted at visitors from outside the UAE and within the country, DSS has been a major entertainment and shopping attraction since its inception and witnessed 1,875,000 visitors in the year 2006 compared to 600,000 in 1998. The event has succeeded in positioning Dubai as the leading summer destination in the region.

The ten-week event is a celebration of different surprises that offer visitors and shoppers the perfect family entertainment opportunity and the ideal combination of shopping and adventure. Over the years DSS has hosted numerous surprises such as Food, Water, Global, Ice, Flower, Sports, Heritage, Arts, Techno, Cartoons, Colour, Sweets, Knowledge, and Back-2-School. The summer event lays special emphasis on children, who are provided all the opportunities to hone their skills while enjoying a fun-packed ten weeks of activities. DSS also has its own mascot, Modhesh, the ever smiling brand ambassador who embodies everything that the event stands for - fun, excitement, brightness and unlimited joy for children.

Dubai Summer Surprises as a venture has contributed significantly to the economy of Dubai and continues to do so by enhancing different economic sectors during a lean period of economic activity in summer. An increase in visitor expenditure from AED 850 million in 1998 to AED 2.57 billion in 2006 is a clear indication of the event's ability to drive economic growth during summer. Into its tenth year, Dubai Summer Surprises has come a long way by building on the successes of the previous editions and aims to create a benchmark for future years to provide the three most important characteristics of the event - shopping, winning, and entertainment.
